About the Festival
What is Godavari Pushkaralu?
Godavari Pushkaralu is a sacred Hindu festival celebrated on the banks of the Godavari river. Associated with Jupiter's transit through the corresponding zodiac sign, it occurs once every 12 years for each sacred river.

Traditional accounts describe Pushkara as the son of Varuna, associated with sacred waters and granted boons by Brahma and Shiva. When Pushkara enters a river along with Brihaspathi (Jupiter), the waters become especially sanctifying.
The first 12 days are called Adi Pushkaralu, and the last 12 days are called Antya Pushkaralu, both considered especially auspicious for devotees seeking spiritual elevation.
